Grace Gospel Missions Bible Institutes
In II Timothy 2:2 Paul wrote to Timothy that . . . the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. In a similar way Stewart Sichilong, our late missionary in Zambia, was fond of saying that there is no success without a successor. Fulfilling that charge was one of the original reasons we started Grace Gospel Missions in 2004. As a result we established Bible Institutes using the BTCP materials in Nigeria and Zambia. One of the great challenges we faced was getting gifted and trained Bible teachers to go to Africa and teach these pastors and church leaders who were hungry to learn the truth and learn about grace. Dr. Dan Hill was able to go a couple of times to each country. We were also thankful to Travis Spencer, Herman Mattox, John Hintz, Jody Brown, Pat Jones and Gerry Bishop who traveled to Africa and taught in the institutes. In Zambia we built upon a foundation that has been laid down by Gene Cunningham and Jim Myers. But it seemed that we were always needing men to go and teach these faithful African men.
In 2009 we were able to train Joe-Elliot Guimond and send him to Accra Ghana. Pat Hill, along with the help of James Owusu, started a Bible Institute and Joe remained there for a year teaching the courses. Having Joe there, teaching, training, mentoring the students worked very well and in January of 2010 Dan and Pat Hill went to Accra and with Joe and James recognized twenty-three graduates of the program who are now prepared to teach others also.
In Liberia Dan and Pat will be working with existing Bible training programs that have been started by SIM, Samaritans Purse and the local Evangelic Union as well as continuing the Bible Institute that was started after Dan’s first visit to Liberia in 2009. As new opportunities arise they will be there, along with Joe, to teach the Word. Africa has long been known for having many men willing to preach the Gospel but at the same time there has been a great need for these men as pastors and others as teachers to be trained in how to study and how to teach the Word of God in grace. Please pray that this important part of our ministry continues to grow as we do our part to fulfill II Timothy 2:2.
